February 8th Meeting and Watson's Open House

This Monday, February 8th, the TNCBA will be hosting their monthly meeting and recognizing the top anglers from 2015. Due the snowpocalypse that hit a couple of weeks ago and scheduling conflicts that followed, the TNCBA has decided to handout awards and certificates at our February meeting.

Please join us this Monday at 7:00pm, at the Sullivan County Courthouse. We will be discussing our fast approaching, first tournament of the year, collecting dues/entry fees, and sharing in fellowship. Also remember to visit the Watson's Open House this Thursday-Saturday.

New look for HowTo's in 2016

For the year 2016 we are going to do some new things with our HowTo's. We will still have the HowTo's at each one of our monthly meetings, but we are also going to include "On the Water - HowTo's" and "TNCBA - Day on the Lake" to help share information and techniques. Here is our first video on the Alabama Rig. These videos can also be found in our tips and techniques section of the TNCBA site.

A basic informational video on the Alabama Rig technique.

Douglas Lake Fishing Report

Date Fished:  Thursday 10.15.15

Water Temp: 70 degrees (Mid-Lake)

                      68 degrees (Up-Lake)

Water Clarity: 3 - 5 '

Wind: W at 5 mph

Conditions: The day started off with air temperatures in the low 40's and warmed into the mid 70's. There was a little fog, but nothing major until you headed up the lake. There was a major high pressure system over us and there wasn't a single cloud in the sky all day long.

Notes:

We found that the majority of the bait schools are still on the main lake or mouths of pockets and creeks. We threw absolutely everything under the sun at them and only came away with two drum and a sauger for the day. The Oakley Big Big Bass and the Fishers of Men tournaments had solid weights brought to the scales, but they had cloudy/rainy weather. We need to have some nasty weather to turn on the bite. Right now it looks as if we will have overcast skies and warm temperatures.

Good Luck this Saturday!

TR. #10 Boat Position and Point Scenarios

Boat Positions for Douglas 10.24.15:

  1. Steve Legg / Ron Poss
  2. Josh Olinger / Brad Irwin
  3. Ryan Pope / Wiley Gobble
  4. Lynn Feagins / Debbie Feagins
  5. Keith Dison / Cody Dison
  6. Bob Harvey / Kelsey Harvey
  7. David Crockett / David Oiler

The point scenarios for this decisive tournament are insane. With all of the drops having been used up earlier in the year, we could see several different outcomes:

Scenario #1 : 90%

In scenario 1, our top two anglers bring fish to the scales and duke it out, "mano-e-mano!" Steve Legg and Keith Dison are currently tied atop the 2015 TNCBA AOY standings with one tournament to fish. So, essentially whoever brings the most weight to the scales will be crowned our 2015 Angler of the Year, but there are always bonus points that could play a spoiler. Any ties would go to Steve Legg, who has accumulated the most weight to this point in the season. So even if Keith Dison finishes one spot ahead of Legg, Legg could pull out a tie by bringing the tournaments big fish to the scales. Theoretically Legg is in the cat-bird seat with the ability to take the win with a a tie or by finishing ahead of Dison. Dison must go on the full offensive and do everything he can to put as many positions as he can between himself and Legg. We are just a little over a week away from finding out how this story ends!

Scenario #2 : 8%

Our second and third scenarios receive a very small probability rating, but if there is a collapse of Roman Empire proportions, these guys will be there to take the throne. Both Kelsey Harvey and Bob Harvey are within 90pts of the two leaders and since Legg and Dison have used up all of their drops the points are black and white. If both Legg and Dison were to zero, the Harvey's would only have to finish in the top ten to jump ahead of Legg and Dison. Kelsey has the upper hand with a six point lead and a sizable gap in the weight differential. It may seem a bit of a reach, but with the events that have transpired this year, anything is possible.

Scenario #3 : 2%

This is our final possible scenario. Ryan Pope is just barley within striking distance of the leaders. He sits 98pts out of first place and if the top four anglers are unable to bring fish to the scales He will have a shot, but it would not be a lock. Even with all four anglers ahead of him, Pope would still need to finish in the top three at Douglas to take the AOY title.

So there you have it...this final tournament of the year is go to be a nail bitter and with the ups and downs that this season has seen, we don't know where anyone will end up...who will be the 2015 Tennessee Christian Bass Anglers, "Angler of the Year"?

Down to the Wire!

It is a two man show atop the 2015 AOY title chase and things couldn't get much closer. The summer stretch of the 2015 TNCBA season has been a very humbling one. Several individuals have failed to catch a single bass in all three night tournaments and the average weights for those tournaments have been extremely low. Cherokee saw only two fish caught all night and Holston allowed only one fish for three of the four anglers that caught fish.

Watauga provided a little reprieve for some, and at least for those that were struggling, the full moon made for a beautiful night. The bite was very finicky all night and it seemed like the person in the front of the boat was the only one getting bit. Keith Dison was the only angler that was able to manage a limit and bring a little over 8 lbs. to the scales. Kelsey Harvey and Greg Pugesek were the only other angler to bring more than one fish to the scales. With both anglers bringing to fish to the scales, this created a small buffer between Dison and Legg. This small buffer was just enough to give Keith Dison a one point lead over Steve Legg.

With just two tournaments left in the season its all going to come down to the spoilers, the individuals that are going to finish in between these two anglers or take big fish points awayfrom their grasp. Mistakes from this point on will be disastrous and we can rest assured that this will come down to the final tournament. The club will vote on where the 9th tournament of the season will be held in their upcoming September meeting.

Top 2 in Points:

  1. Keith Dison 597 pts
  2. Steve Legg 596 pts

Last trip into the darkness...

Tonight the TNCBA will fish their last night tournament of the year. This tournament will be crucial in the 2015 AOY title fight. All of the TNCBA anglers have used their two drops, so there is no room for error as we work our way through the final three tournaments. Steve Legg and Keith Dison have a pretty commanding hold on the points lead, but that could all change if they fail to bring a fish to the scales.

The water looks to be down about 5'-6' on Watauga and the recently cool nights could have the bait starting to move. The moon will be close to full, so hopefully the TNCBA can turn around their summertime blues and have a more active bite.

Lake : Watauga

Time: 8pm - 4am (Honor Start)

Ramp: Fish Springs Marina

Patrick Henry Fishing Report

*This report combines two trips to Patrick Henry last week. One trip was made on Monday and the other trip was made on Saturday.

Water Temp:  78 - 80 degrees down lake / 70 - 75 degrees up lake

Water Clarity: 2-3'

Conditions: Mornig lows in the low 60's and warming into the upper 80's. very few clouds in the sky. Full moon was out early in the morning and there was little to no wind. The water was more stained than I had expected. The water is fluctuating, but has been 2-3' lower on average.

Fishing: Spent a lot of time fishing slow with little to no action on the steeper bluffs. Tubes and small jigs did produce a few small fish. Most consistent bites came in less than 5' of water on spinnerbaits and shallow running crankbaits.

Hope this helps everyone somewhat this weekend!
