TNCBA #3 : Douglas Lake Recap

The TNCBA headed down to Douglas Lake for their 3rd stop of the 2014 season. The morning started off cool and clear in the upper 40s, but as soon as the dawn began to break a massive fog bank rolled in on the anglers. Many of the anglers were able to launch and beat the fog to their first spot, but a few were trapped and forced to spend the first 3 hours fishing inside of Swan's Marina. After the fog broke, perfectly clear and sunny skies were revealed and the temperatures warmed up into the upper 70s.

The reports from the anglers revealed that a wide variety of lures where used throughout the day. We heard crankbaits, spooks, floating worms, texas rigged worms, spinnerbaits, shaky head worms, tubes, jigs, and carolina rigs to name the ones floating around the weigh-in. As anglers began rolling up to the weigh-in it was easy to see that it was feast or famine for many of the anglers. The first place team of Poss and Oiler where anchored by Oiler's 11.02 lbs. big bag of the tournament, which he put together throwing topwater and using finesse tactics. Poss and Oiler where able to compile 14.52 lbs. and take the win by 3 lbs.

The second place team of Harvey and Harvey were already at a disadvantage as they launched their boats in the early morning. Bob had only one hour to fish before having to leave for a business obligation, but he was clutch and put to solid fish in the boat that totaled 6 lbs. Kelsey Harvey then grinded out 4 keepers to add to his dad's catch and give them a total of 11.15 lbs. The top 3 was rounded out by Steve Legg and Wiley Gobble with 10.75 lbs. Legg and Gobble reported catching fish on both reaction and finesse baits. Steve Legg is off to another hot start with 3 top fives in the first three tournaments and he leads the 2014 AOY standings.

The TNCBA had a good turnout of 8 boats and 17 anglers at Douglas Lake, but now the turn their attention to the month of May and the clubs first hot lake of the year. The TNCBA will vote on the lake at their May meeting. The club will then head out-of-town for a little competition and relaxation on Clarks Hill in McCormick, SC. The TNCBA is off to a great start in2014, so come out and join us for great fellowship and fishing!

God Bless,
