TNCBA #9 : Douglas Lake Recap

On Friday, September 19th, the TN Christian Bass Anglers took to Douglas Lake for the ninth tournament of the season. This was the last night tournament of the year and it was the night of the kickers. Two anglers brought in fish weighing over 6 pounds. Mike Vandyke and Robert Chatman were able to ride those kickers to the top of the individual leader board, but it was the consistent fish catching of Scott Vanwinkle and David Crockett, both anglers brought limits to the scales, that took the top spot on the team side of competition. 14 out of 18 anglers brought fish to the scales and 9 teams competed in the ninth tournament of the TNCBA season.

-Thanks to all who came out to fish with us. Please be at our next meeting to fill out the 2014 survey and have a voice in the 2015 scheduling process.

TNCBA #8 : Watauga Entry List

This Friday the TNCBA will be visiting Watauga Lake again, but this time with a different view. The lights will be turned out and the AOY race is up for grabs with only three tournaments left. We will be launching from Fish Springs Marina at 8pm and the weigh-in will be conducted at 4am. If you have not signed-up for the tournament you are still welcome to join us and pay at the ramp. Below are the teams that have entered and their boat number:

#1 - Poss/Legg

#2 - Dison/Pugesek

#3 - Jackson/Edwards

#4 - Crockett/Oiler

#5 - Pope/Gobble

#6 - Olinger

#7 - Vandyke/Johnson

#8 - Feagins/Feagins

#9 - Harvey/Harvey

Who is clutch enough to take the AOY?

The dog days of summer are now upon us and with only three regular season events remaining for the Tennessee Christian Bass Anglers, the points race is reaching a boiling point. Currently the standings have Steve Legg sitting in first after his extremely consistent start, but David Crockett sits only two points back. You could throw a blanket over third through fifth with only three points separating those three anglers. Oiler has put together a strong mid-season push, but some timely bonus points have kept Bob and Kelsey Harvey hot on David Oiler's heels. These current standings reflect one drop, but lets take a look at the scenario when we apply the second drop.

- When we add our second drop to the top six and assume that each competitor maxes out their meeting points:

     1. 501 - Steve Legg

     2. 500 - David Crockett

     T3. 498 - David Oiler

     T3. 498 - Bob Harvey

     5. 493 - Kelsey Harvey

     6. 481 - Keith Dison

When we add the second drop to the '14 AOY standings, the points race looks insane!!! The top five anglers are separated by only eight points, and the top four are only separated by three points! The TNCBA season finishes with two night tournaments and a hot lake tournament that will be determined at the October meeting. Anglers will have to be on point and bring their best to the table, especially with the fatigue that anglers are forced to battle during the long hours of these next two night tournaments. A single lost fish could take them out of the fight. Bonus points for a LM over 5, SM over 4, or tournament big fish will play a huge role in this year's outcome. If one of the top competitors can steal a couple bonus points in the final three tournaments it would go a long way to sealing the deal. Then there is always the remaining TNCBA anglers that will be fighting for the top spot at each tournament. If one of the top four anglers slips up and allows a group of anglers not in the top six to finish ahead of them, their AOY dreams could be shattered. The 2014 AOY will definitely come down to the last tournament of the year and it is going to be a dogfight. So the question remains, "Who is clutch enough?"

The Stretch Run...

The end is drawing near and things are tight atop the 2014 TNCBA AOY standings. We have one night tournament in the books and three more ahead of us before we finish up in the daylight of October. Our first night tournament on Holston was dominated by Bob and Kelsey Harvey. The team of Harvey was anchored by Bob's best 3 fish limit weighing 12.50 lbs.

So far the year has been dominated by Steve Legg who has been extremely consistent with only one finish outside of the top 3. We will see if anyone can come from behind to catch up or if we are all just fishing for second. How bad do you want it?!

Day 2 on "The HILL"

Water Temperature : 76-82 Degrees

Water Clarity : 3-5'

Notes :

Today's morning bite was decent with fish being caught on a crankbait, chatter bait, and a Lucky Craft Gunfish. The majority of our fish this morning were in the 1.5-2.5 lbs. range, but the bite shut off pretty quickly around 8 am. We are starting to key in on main lake islands and points that saddle, and have deep water in close proximity. The Feagins and Oiler/Crockett have all made it down here to McCormick and spent a little bit of time on the water. Anglers are catching fish, but the key to this week will be who can find a kicker 3 or 4 pounder. We will check back in tomorrow with another fishing update and we will let you know how the golf match goes!

Day 1 on "The Hill"

Water Temperature: 82 Degrees

Water Clarity: 2-3'

Notes:  We got on the water at 6:30 pm and ran up the lake about 1 1/2 miles and fished a small pocket within a creek. The little cuts inside of these pockets are filled with grass and we were able to manage 3 keepers this evening throwing a jig, a crankbait, and a buzzbait. There wasn't much topwater action as the sun began to set, but the morning could be different as the water cools back into the 70s.

TNCBA #5 : King of the Hill

This week the TNCBA anglers are taking a little road trip for their only out-of-town tournament of the year. The TNCBA is headed for Clarks Hill, just outside of McCormick, SC. Many of the anglers will be arriving at the beginning of the week for practice and some relaxation. Clarks Hill is deemed as a blue back herring lake which often means that the bass will be on the move along the long sloping points as they hunt for those schools of herring.

This will be the first trip to Clarks Hill for many of the anglers, so the tournament should be interesting. We will be posting from here at Hickory Knob State Park all week long. So check back with us for photos and and news from "The HILL."

God Bless,

TNCBA
